Medical Marijuana and Jeff Sessions

Here’s an article from today’s Washington Post arguing that Jeff Sessions will fail in his quest to limit patients’ access to medical marijuana.

Our new Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, has targeted marijuana including medical marijuana in his new War on Drugs.  He has asked Congress to allow him to prosecute doctors patients and providers of medical marijuana in states where it is allowed, breaking the years-long agreement between the Federal and State governments.  So far, Congress has resisted this terrible policy, but we all need to make our Congressman(person)   aware of our support for medical marijuana.

Call the local office of your US Congressperson and tell them you want marijuana on Schedule 2.  That’s short hand for making medical marijuana equal to oxycodone, hydrocodone, and fentanyl for the DEA and FDA. Right now it’s the equivalent of heroin (“no medical use”). Both the NAS (National Academy of Science) and NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) have said that medical marijuana is effective in treating disease and may be one of the keys to taming our opioid epidemic.

It is crazy that we have to fight our own Attorney General to make sure that facts about reality determine our government’s policy. So be it, but fight.
